What is the Learn to Surf Program at Kima?
During our Learn to Surf (LTS) program you will learn to surf in just 5 days. Our LTS program is for those who have never been surfing or have only stood on a surfboard a few times.
You will:
– Learn the basics of catching waves
– Understand the area to surf
– Build confidence in the water
– Attend surf theory classes, video analysis and a pool session
– Learn to turn to the left and to the right
Each day builds on the others and focuses on a specific topic.
Day 1:
On your first day, we will introduce you to the sport of surfing with a theory class. Learn the pop-up on dry land and in waist-deep water. After the beach lesson, you will attend a pool session to practice your pop-up, improve your balance and your paddling technique.
Day 2:
On the second day, you will be working on improving your pop-up technique and boar control in the white water. You will learn to understand wave energy for longer rides, refining your surfing style, stability and control.
Day 3:
Time for day 2 in the whitewash still. You’ll learn how to turn the board to the right side. Your surf instructor will always be close by guiding and informing you on how to improve.
Day 4:
On the fourth day, we’ll record your session to have a better understanding of your mistakes and your surfing. You’ll be taught the backside turning and angled take-off. After the session we will analyse your waves with you, identifying your strengths and where to improve.
Day 5:
Master paddling techniques on day 5, navigate safely to the line up by using the turtle roll, and practice catching green waves (if conditions allow). Refine your turning and theory skills as you evaluate your readiness for solo surfing.
After completing our 5-day LTS program you won’t be a pro surfer yet but it is the perfect start to your surfing journey, that will teach you all the basics.
